During a live chat with Ultimate Spider-Man writer Brian Michael Bendis, he confirmed that fans will see two Spider-Mans after the Secret Wars series ends. That means we will soon be seeing Peter Parker and Miles Morales working together, probably sharing billing on one comic book, working together to fight villains and criminals.

Created as a replacement for Peter Parker when he died in the storyline of Ultimate Fallout #4, Miles Morales is a Black-Hispanic teenager who possesses the same powers as Parker when he was bitten by a spider genetically modified by Norman Osborn. This was Marvel's attempt at making the comic book more inclusive, embracing change and diversity for its characters. The aim was to give kids of different cultural backgrounds and ethnicity a positive role model through the characters in the comic books.

The move had mixed reactions from readers and fans, but eventually got positive reviews through the stories created. Thus the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man eventually got accepted and gained its own set of fans.

So when Ultimate Spider-Man writer Brian Michael Bendis confirmed that there will be two Spider-Mans when the Secret Wars mini-series ends, it also confirms the speculation that Peter Parker will be resurrected, although there were no details on how. But knowing the Marvel Universe, there are many ways the dead can come back to life. Time-travel is one. And how will they be distinguished from each other? Aside from both co-existing in future comic books, no other details were revealed.

This revelation also confirms talks of big changes, leading to what they refer to now as the New Marvel Universe. The Avengers lineup will change. New characters are also coming, as well as rebooted ones. Whatever changes are in store for the new Marvel, we'll just have to wait and see when Secret Wars releases the last issue of in the mini-series by the end of September this year.
