The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie has seen some delays in the past, but the film's finally moving forward, and is finally giving the Power Rangers the giant budget and CGI effects they deserve. Lionsgate is surging ahead with the film, and they've recently locked in Project Almanac director Dean Israelite to helm the Power Rangers' next on-screen adventure.

But recent rumors point to a cast of young stars that might have been locked down. Three stars have been continually discussed as becoming a Power Ranger- Liam Hemsworth, Chloe Grace Moretz and Taylor Lautner. Who would play which power ranger? Hemsworth and Lautner are already pretty popular as teen heartthrobs, so Lionsgate would probably be looking at them for the lead Red Ranger (or maybe Green Ranger... probably not Blue, as he was too a little bit on the nerdy side).

Moretz would obviously be up for the female Yellow and Pink Rangers- and if Lionsgate is keeping with the original makeup of the Power Rangers team (where the Pink Ranger is white and the Yellow Ranger is Asian), Moretz would probably be up for the Pink Ranger role.

Jason David Frank, who played the Green Ranger on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series, is also lobbying for a role in the film. It's not an impossibility, considering that the original Jem has a cameo role in the new Jem and the Holograms film, and that the original Flash appears in a recurring role on the new CW Flash series.

However recent talk about Dean Israealite as the director brings up a question about the film's budget. Israelite was reportedly chosen because he made Project Almanac look very impressive on an extremely limited budget. He might be asked to do the same with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers- which might mean the film's budget isn't as high as previously thought. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will premiere in theaters on January 13, 2017.
