It has been confirmed Avenger's Nick Fury will play as the lead in the remake of the 1958 movie The Blob.
The Blob, originally starred by Steve McQueen, has had a sequel named Beware! The Blob  in 1975 and has been remade for some time in 1988 by Chuck Russel with Frank Darabont.

It's a film about an alien creature landing on the surface of Earth and subsequently invading the land by its overpowering gooey and slimy feature. It's totally a horror story of "once you're absorbed by its terror, you can't scream."

The latest remake, which will be released on October 9 this year, will be produced by Goldcrest Films, and Samuel L. Jackson, known for his Snakes on a Plane, will play as a "a biochemistry professor attempting to thwart the other-worldly predator discovered deep within the earth." The film will begin shooting this fall with director Simon West, known for The Expendable's and Con Air.

The producer of the original movie, Jack Harris will be one of the executive producers of the film. Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten, known to have been strong creators of the horror genre since the past decades, will also produce. Taewon Entertainment & A-List Corporation, which is based in Korea, will co-finance, having this as their first major English-language project. It is also said that Goldcrest will launch the film at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.

Simon West is so far the best for the directing task, as much as Jackson is for the acting. He has had many horror and action films that turned to be blockbusters such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, The General's Daughter and The Expendables 2.

Pascal Degove, Managing Director Goldcrest Films said in a press release: "Simon West has a unique gift for blending cutting edge effects, awesome visual spectacle and a hint of humour. He's the perfect choice to reimagine The Blob and we're so excited to be partnering with him."

It is also a really good choice for remake at a really good timing, since now that we have really good technology, the alien monster will have a better, scarier, more realistic look.

Simon West "With modern CGI we can now fully realize the potential of The Blob. The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It's a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans."
