The first two DLC packs for Mario Kart 8 have been massively popular- with that, it's not surprising at all that Nintendo would want to keep the cash flowing in with a continual stream of DLC. And a new financial report from the company confirms just that- there's plenty more kart-racing DLC coming in the future.

Specifically, the report says this about more Mario Kart 8 DLC:

"For "Nintendo 3DS" and "Wii U," in addition to maintaining the performance of already-released titles with strong sales potential, new titles will continue to be introduced in order to further expand the installed bases. Specifically, by sequentially introducing additional download content for blockbuster titles such as "Mario Kart 8″ and "Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U," we aim to keep these titles played more actively."

There's been two DLC packs for Mario Kart 8 so far; the first is The Legend of Zelda x Mario Kart 8, which contained several Legend of Zelda themed characters and vehicles- Link, Triforce Tires, the Hylian Kite and the Master Cycle. As well, the DLC contained some new goodies that were entirely Mario-themed.

The second DLC pack, Animal Crossing x Mario Kart 8, included the Streetle and City Tripper vehicle bodies, the Leaf Tires and Paper Glider, and the Villager character- all based off the Animal Crossing series. Just like before, the second DLC pack also contained several Mario-themed add-ons, like the addition of Dry Bowser.

What potential Nintendo series could earn its own Mario Kart DLC pack? Star Fox and Metroid both seem like viable possibilities- the next DLC pack could potentially include an Arwing or Samus's gunship in go-kart form. Or perhaps a Pikmin-themed or Fire Emblem-themed DLC pack could be headed to Mario Kart 8 in the future. Which Nintendo franchises do you think are headed to Mario Kart next?
