Updates on Sherlock season 4 are like breadcrumbs that fans simply continue to pick up. After all, the BBC series has been airing every 2 years, so every bit of information that comes once in a while within this long span of time would still be of value to them.

The co-creator, Steven Moffat, was quoted by BBC in an interview with Newsbeat, "They don't need Sherlock anymore. So we persuaded them to do it, which is fair enough." Apparently, he was pertaining to the two male leads, Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes, as well as Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson.

The two actors have risen to a pedestal when it comes to their acting careers. A lot of filming projects are on the hunt for them, making their schedules very busy. Nonetheless, it did not become much of a problem for Moffat to get the two on board for Sherlock season 4 because, the same way fans love the show, Cumberbatch and Freeman enjoy being a part of it too.

The storyline of the 4th season is still a big mystery, where mere speculations are only being picked up from the creator's comment with Entertainment Weekly that it will be about 'consequences.' He said that fans overlooked something they did in season 3.

Now with more people getting into thinking, there are assumptions that season 4 will portray the death of Mary Watson.

This is something that is bound to happen in the story, after all. The Telegraph quotes Martin Freeman, "While we play fast and loose with the original stories, we generally follow the trajectory of what Conan Doyle did. So Watson gets married and then Mary dies - so at some point presumably she'll die."

There are still a lot of things to discover about Sherlock season 4. It is appearing that it will not be all fun and games, as tragedy might be a playing element as well. While fans don't have next season to watch this 2015, they should not forget to catch the one-episode Christmas special, which is set in the year 1985, during the holiday itself.
