Denzel Washington will be back for more action on "Equalizer 2" after Sony confirms the upcoming production and release of the movie sequel. Will he be following the footsteps of the "Taken" trilogy?

Another action-packed series from Denzel Washington is something to be looked forward to as an "Equalizer 2" movie is about to be produced and released in cinemas soon. Sony has already confirmed that they will be producing another movie sometime this year with a probable release in cinemas on 2016. Denzel Washington who starred in the 2014 film will be reprising his role as the retired black ops government operative who is out trying to live a normal life.

Unfortunate to him, yet fortunate to the viewers of the film, he is forced to go back to his roots as he rescues a young girl from a violent Russian gang. Chloe Grace Moretz is expected to be reprising her role in the movie as well.

As for the plot of the upcoming sequel, it would not be surprise to see the Russian mob out for revenge. Is the movie a potential "Taken" inspired franchise? There are quite several similarities with Liam Neeson and Denzel Washington's role in the two films. Both lead stars are deadly and skilled ex-government special force who wants to enjoy a simple life and retirement. Trouble seems to enjoy both men's company making them intertwined with women who are in need of saving. The plot of the sequel "Equalizer 2" can also be a back story of sorts, something "Taken 3" has already offered in the cinemas recently.

Hopefully, Sony will come up with a script that will shy away the movie from being compared to the movie trilogy "Taken." With a record of $192.3 million ticket sales worldwide from its initial installment, a unique plot would definitely bring the 'Equalizer 2" sequel to bigger heights in the box-office. As of the moment Denzel Washington is busy filming for the movie "Magnificent Seven."
