The Legend of Korra's spin-off film might finally have a release date! According to International Business Times, they're purporting that the film may release in 2016. As well, the rumors also point to the film being released on Netflix (the usual home for TV shows that are brought back from the dead). However, it's important to note that this Legend of Korra news, exciting as it might be, is still just in the rumor stages for now.

IBT poits to a petition that's gathering followers online to continue where Nickelodeon's animated Avatar: The Last Airbender spin-off last ended, with Korra and Asami finding love. The rumors state that the spin-off may in fact follow the same storyline.

However, another possible storyline has just found its way into the rumor mill. Comic Book Resources recently held an interview with the voice cast of The Legend of Korra, and Janet Varney (who voices Korra on the series) brought up an idea that hasn't really been mentioned before:

"I would love to see the very first Avatar. But really, anything that Mike [Dante DiMartino] and Bryan [Konietzko] ask us to do, we just say, 'Absolutely.'"

Presumably, a story on the first Avatar wouldn't involve Varney at all (why would Korra be so far in the past?), but it's a definite possibility.

A previous Comic Book Resources interview with series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko discussed just why the series wasn't as popular on Nickelodeon as the original Avatar series was- which might explain the potential for Korra to move to Netflix. Said Konietzko:

"But the network does know that this show is huge internationally. It does really well for them there, and it does really well for them online - digital downloads, streaming, DVD and Blu-ray. It does well in all that stuff. So they know it has an audience. They just haven't found a way to make it work on their channel."

We'll see if those 2016 rumors prove to be true.
