The Terminator franchise is no stranger to massive, unexpected plot twists. The original film might not have had any major ones, but Terminator 2 kept a major secret under wraps- that Arnold Schwarzenegger's time-traveling cyborg assassin was actually the good guy, and the supposed police officer, player by Robert Patrick (actually a much more advanced-and nastier- robot) was the real villain.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation continued on a similar path, with the last film nearly including a game-changing plot twist in the end. The film, at one point, ended with John Connor (Christian Bale) being killed and Marcus, a Terminator (played by Sam Worthington) slipping Connor's skin onto his robot body and continuing the war as the new John Connor. Which is completely insane... but also precedent for the Terminator franchise to contain some seriously gigantic plot twists.

And the next official film in the franchise, Terminator Genisys, will definitely be including one of those. Here's how we know: the Sydney Morning Herald recently published an interview with the cast of Terminator Genisys, along with a description of footage they saw at a Terminator Genisys official press event. And their description includes one very crucial detail:

"The footage,  basically a trailer on steroids,  takes what fans have already seen in the first trailer, which debuted in December, and gives everything a bit more context, like what happens when Kyle pops up in 1984 and why that school bus starts cartwheeling on the Golden Gate Bridge, in addition to one massive secret."

Obviously, they're not going to tell us what the secret is. But the cat is far enough out of the bag as it is, because we know Terminator Genisys has a secret. And if it's something they're willing to show to the Sydney Morning Herald, it's extremely possible that we might see this secret in a later trailer. Fingers crossed.

Terminator Genisys will premiere in theaters on July 1, 2015 and star Arnold Schwarzegger, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, JK Simmons and Matt Smith.
