Fox's "American Idol" received a significant drop in rating in its latest episode, which aired on March 22. NBC's "The Voice," on the other hand, continues to engage the audience with its face-off battle rounds as it remains at the top spot.

"American Idol" dropped 26 percent viewership since its one-hour episode last March 11. According to Deadline, the show might have lost its audience following the season finale for one of the most talked about series on television, Fox's "Empire."

The outlet cited that since "Empire" came to an end, CBS began dominating the top spot with a total of 9.15 million viewers. Fox, on the other hand, only received a total of 8.34 million viewers.

NBC's "The Voice" remains at the top spot with an average of 3.3 rating among adults 18-49 on Monday, March 22. According to Broadcasting Cable, the show garnered the most number of viewership, making it the top-rated broadcast program for the evening.

What makes "The Voice" consistent with its viewership ratings that the "American Idol" seemingly fails to achieve?

In 2014, "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest announced that the show will be undergoing major changes, which reflect the network's realization that the show is beginning to lose its spark. Despite all these changes, such as combining the performance and results into one episode, the "American Idol" still fails to receive the magic and impact it once had with the audience.

Although in its last episode, Michael Slezak from TV Line raved about Clark Beckham's performance of "Every Breath You Take."

"I'm so heartbroken I can barely complete the thought," Slezak remarked. "The Voice" similarly revolves around the same concept. The show begins with the contestants battling against each other and their respective mentors choosing between the two. An online site called Debate.Org also asked viewers whether or not "The Voice" was better than "American Idol." 83 percent of the respondents answered yes, while the remaining believe that the latter was better.
