There's no shortage of quality science-fiction films headed our way- and the latest is a remake from quite a while ago. It's been revealed by the Hollywood Reporter that the film Alien Nation has just been put up for a remake, from 20th Century Fox and producer Gale Ann Hurd.

Here's what we know about the Alien Nation remake so far (besides the whole 20th Century Fox, Gale Ann Hurd thing)- the film will be written by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. According to THR, Fox is keeping all plot details as secret as possible, but the one detail they will mention is that they want the film to be a reboot in the style of their extremely successful Rise of the Planet of the Apes. With that in mind, here's the quickie synopsis Fox has so far: "The first installment will begin by telling how and why the aliens came to Earth."

But could Alien Nation find itself in competition with another upcoming sci-fi film, Prometheus 2? It's certainly possible. Recent rumors pin Prometheus 2's release date in the ballpark of early 2016, and if that's the case for Prometheus 2 it could also be the case for Alien Nation. Which film might come out on top? Alien Nation was a cult hit after it was released in 1988, spawning comic books, novels and a TV series adaptaion. But Prometheus has the full weight of Ridley Scott and the Alien franchise behind it. It's a tough sell, but the poor reviews for the first Prometheus might put Alien Nation just a little bit ahead.

Recent rumors about Prometheus 2 claim the plot follows another expedition to the planet LV223 to continue to the mission that ended catastrophically in the first film. Only this time, instead of scientists, the Weyland corporation will be sending a military outfit (Aliens, anyone?). We'll see how that goes as both films eke closer to their release dates.
