Charlie Hunnam is known for being the tough guy on "Sons of Anarchy" and "Pacific Rim," but he thinks that he is far from his characters and says he is actually a "hippie who smiles a lot."

"I play a lot of tough guys and violent characters, but I'm not like that at all. I'm a hippie who smiles a lot and is pretty relaxed," Hunnam told Cosmopolitan.

While Hunnam described himself as being far from the characters he portray on TV and in movies, Hunnam recounted the time when he was expelled from school after throwing scissors at his high school art teacher.

In an interview with Elle Canada, Hunnam recounted that he was banned from going to Florence because his art teacher called him a "menace to society." He reacted angrily and broke into his teacher's materials and proudly did this painting. When he showed everyone his painting, his art teacher ripped it up in front of his classmates. He said that he felt angry, humiliated, and sad that he threw their twisted art scissors at his teacher.

What made him change from being a raging student to a smiling hippie?

Hunnam revealed that he has a form of "escape fantasy" that he uses whenever he needs to take a break from all the stress and pressure. He revealed that he learned more about himself and life in general while he was alone in the woods.

Hunnam also admitted that he had a hard time moving on from his badass character on "Sons of Anarchy." He even stopped riding his motorbike when the series ended.

"Having to say goodbye to that character was really heartbreaking for me," he admitted.

While most people view masculinity as taking in the form of toned muscles, Hunnam revealed that the idea is more on being open to your emotions and allowing for vulnerability while being the shoulder that people around you can lean on.
