The stereotypical virtual reality headgear was turned into a frenzy when Microsoft had announced the "HoloLens" during a Windows 10 Keynote in January. The HoloLens is said to be a huge leap as compared to other virtual reality headgear. But how is it different?

The Microsoft HoloLens, is an 'augment reality' headset. This means that through the HoloLens, the reality can be touched by the virtual world. How so? The VR Headset will incorporate holograms to your actual surroundings. This is made possible because the headset has a see-through HD lens which would enable the user to still see the real world.

Another feature of the HoloLens is that it is an independent device. The HoloLens can be used without being attached to a computer or any other cables which might connect smart phones or other handheld computers. The device has 3 processors and one of which is the Holographic Processing Unit (HPU). According to Computer World, the Holographic Processing Unit processes the terabytes of data being delivered by the sensors in the glasses thus enabling the device to fuse both digital and real world.

According to Venture Capital Post, the Microsoft HoloLens uses an application called HoloStudio that lets the user manipulate 3-D objects projected as holographic images.

The HoloLens will be using a Cherry Trail chipset. The device is actually smaller and faster compared to the Bay Trail. This chipset might enable wireless charging for the VR headset.

Aside from these cool features, the Microsoft HoloLens makes use of voice commands and gestures. It can even track eye movement and adjust the view based on its movement. Sounds like a "Reel Steel" movie.

Microsoft is said to release the HoloLens this year together with the Windows 10, since the device will be partnered with the said OS. Gamers and app developers will find this launching a channel of innovation for newer games and apps.

The Microsoft HoloLens is expected to sell with a $600 to $1200 range upon its released which is said to be after the release of the Windows 10 which will be on the summer of 2015.
