After EXO's explosive performance featuring their songs "Black Pearl," "What is Love?" "Deep Breath," and "Overdose"  at the recently concluded MAMA 2014, the group made an unexpected announcement through a video clip teasing the group's comeback in 2015.

The mysterious teaser was uploaded on the same night in SMTOWN's official YouTube channel, confirming EXO's comeback in 2015.

According to Soompi, the black and white video started with a spinning top leading to a montage of what the website described as "modern, minimalist scenes" mostly showing movements of gray colored objects. While the clip did not show any of the EXO members, their signature hexagonal logo was shown prominently in the video.

What caught the viewers' attention is the video's ending showing the hexagonal linear maze logo with two silver balls moving towards the maze's opening while another 10 balls are already outside. This has left fans speculating on what the teaser could mean, as the 10 balls might represent the current remaining 10 members of EXO, while the two that are inside could represent two new members to complete the original 12 of EXO.

However, a report by Koreaboo presented a different interpretation, saying the 10 balls signify the idols finding their way out while the other two trapped inside represent their fans' hearts.

KpopStars noted that while no exact date was given, the video ended with the message saying "EXO 2015 Coming Soon."

The group's upcoming comeback will be the first since former members Kris and Luhan left this year on May and October, respectively.

Koreaboo also reported that in a Q&A with reporters before their performance, leader Suho said, "I've seen an article saying EXO is getting ready to make a comeback early next year. We are working hard to be able to make a comeback next year."

Meanwhile, Chanyeol took to Instagram hours after the teaser release thanking people behind their success and asking for support from their fans. He posted a photo of EXO's logo with the caption that reads, "Once again, to all the EXO-L's that we love, the staff, and the manager hyungs and noonas that suffered much for us and shone a light on us we sincerely thank you and EXO-L just needs to believe us and follow us ok? I love you very much<3."

The group took home several awards in MAMA 2014 including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, which are two of the three highest honors.
