It was recently confirmed that EXO, as well as Big Bang's G-Dragon and Taeyang will be attending the event, which will be held at Asia World Expo in Hong Kong on December 3.

MAMA 2014 officially opened its voting page on October 27. Fans have since showed their support to their favorite artists and idol groups.

There are seventeen award categories including Best New Artist, Best Male and Female Artists, Best Male and Female Groups, Best Dance Performance Male and Female Groups, Best Dance Solo Performance, Best Collaboration, Best Vocal Performance Male and Female, Best Band Performance, Best Rap Performance, Best Music Video, Best OST, as well as UnionPay Artist and Song of the Year.

Rankings as of October 29 show JYP's GOT7 in the lead for the Best New Artist category, followed by YG's WINNER. For the Best Male and Female Artist categories, Big Bang's Taeyang and Ailee are currently in the lead.

For Best Male Group, SM label mates Super Junior and EXO are in a close fight, while YG's 2NE1 and SM's Girls' Generation are contenders for Best Female Group.

For Best Dance Performance Male Group, EXO has so far the most votes, followed by INFINITE. SISTAR and missA, meanwhile, are at a close fight for the Best Dance Performance Female Group.

Mnet Asian Music Awards started in 1999 and was then known as Mnet Korean Music Festival. According to KpopStars, it was the first award ceremony to honor the medium of Korean music videos, pretty similar to the mission of the early MTV Video Music Awards.

The Mnet Asian Music Awards began holding the award ceremony in 2010 and also started recognizing other artists from neighboring countries such as China and Japan. The event, however, primarily provides recognition to K-pop artists.
