Ever heard of a Twitter Stampede?

You probably have if you're a hardcore fan of the series "Longmire" (If not, you were probably as confused about them as we were). "Longmire," you see, was recently cancelled by A&E- but not for its poor ratings. Because it was a huge hit... with the wrong people. A&E apparently thought that a show that was popular almost exclusively with older viewers (as "Longmire" was) wasn't viable on the network, and they canned it.

Which brings us to the Twitter Stampedes. Essentially, it's a mass of "Longmire" fans tweeting with the hastag "LongLiveLongmire," to try and drum up support for the show. And while the strategy might not be working so far, Enstars reports that "Longmire" writer Tony Tost has been stampeding himself- and organizing the troops to make them a more powerful force of un-cancellation.

On Twitter, Tost issued a series of Tweets that instruct the "Longmire" stampede-goers how to better fight for the show.

"Love the weekly #LongLiveLongmire stampedes. I wonder, though: should folks think about doing it the same time/day each week? @LongmirePosse"

"If the #LongLiveLongmire stampede is every Mon night, then it could build by word of mouth. If it changes time/day, I don't know if it can."

"For me, it's the same as if a network were to change the day/time of a show every week. Harder to build critical mass. #LongLiveLongmire"

It's definitely a smart strategy. A smattering of tweets that come in at all times might not faze a network, but giving them a time and a place to organize can increase their numbers, and if the "Longmire" stampedes get huge enough, another network is bound to take notice.

We may just get more "Longmire" after all.
