People have been clamoring for another "A Song of Ice and Fire" novel since the day the last one was released, but "A Dance with Dragons" (the most recent book in the series) was released three years ago.

And now, according to some speculation, it could take another three years to finish the latest, titled "The Winds of Winter."

That's what Christian Post is saying, anyway, in a new piece chronicling the slow, weary march towards a book that will someday release. Christian Post, in their headline, tap the release date as "3 Years" away, but a follow-up quote from George R. R. Martin says it could even be longer.

"I don't know."

"I have days where I make lots of progress, I have days where I make next to no progress, I have days where I think I'm going backwards because I don't like what I wrote yesterday."

Later, the author adds:

"I can't write many more than one word at a time. And I know myself-I'm 65 years old now, and I've been writing professionally since 1971. I know my working methods. I don't work when I travel, I don't work in hotels, I don't work in airplanes, I don't work on trains."

"I work at home when I have a nice big uninterrupted block of time when I can really lose myself in my work. It's worked for me my entire adult life. I'm not going to change it now because some people are too impatient for the next book."

Getting our hands on the next "A Song of Ice and Fire" book could take a while.

However, Digital Spy discredits a regular rumor- that it's work on the HBO series "Game of Thrones" that's been stalling Martin. Here's a quote from the author in a recent Digital Spy article:

"The TV show has nothing to do with my progress or lack of it. It's its own thing."

So we can scratch off that rumor for now.

It's probably for the best, considering that the HBO series is nearly finished with filming its fifth season. HNGN confirms that actress Sophie Turner (who plays Sansa) has stated the fifth season shoot is almost over.

At that point, we'll get another season of "Game of Thrones." And, eventually (maybe in the next decade or so) another "A Song of Ice and Fire" novel.
