Fans of Channing Tatum may not see the actor as "Gambit" in the upcoming movie "X-Men: Apocalypse," Enstarz reports. It was previously reported that Tatum is set to play a superhero role, but writer Simon Kinberg stated that the actor may not be seen on the big screen as "Gambit" any time soon.

In an interview with Latino Review, Simon Kinberg sounded noncommittal about Tatum joining the movie franchise as Gambit. The scribe also added that he was uncertain whether a standalone Gambit movie or cameo would take place at all.

"I genuinely don't know the answer to that question," Kinberg said. "It's something we are all talking about whether it would be good for Gambit to be in a mainline X-Men movie or he would be in his own standalone movie potentially one day to be able to be in another X-Men movie after his Gambit movie introduces him. I really don't know the answer," he added.

In another interview last June, Tatum suggested that a standalone movie might happen and that a cameo in the upcoming X-Men sequel is possible. Kinberg, however, announced they are still unsure if they will be including the character in the storyline.

"I think both ways have worked and I think actually the real question will be is there a role that is strong and specific enough for Gambit in a mainline X-Men movie whether it be Apocalypse or future X-Men movie that would be the right way to introduce the character," Kinberg said.

"You don't want to stick characters in these movies and manufacture something for them to do," the X-Men writer added.

Meanwhile, the "Magic Mike" actor made an appearance at the 2014 Comic-Con in San Diego, California to attend the Warner Bros. Panel.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is scheduled to hit the theaters on May 27, 2016.
