The smartphone market is a competitive industry. To date, leading smartphones run on both Android and iOS with Samsung, Apple and Google leading the pack. Here are some of the top smartphones this 2014.

1. Samsung Galaxy S5

-The S5 looks and feels better than its predecessor, since Samsung chose a softer finish with a dot pattern instead of the former glossy back plate. The back plate is still removable, which allows users to switch batteries and panels. The front of the S5 is similar to the S4, the only difference being the larger 5.1 inch screen. The S5 is water resistant up to a depth of one meter for half an hour. Users cannot go swimming and take underwater photos with it, but it will survive accidents. Its display is second to none with its 1080p Super AMOLED screen that offers brighter, richer colors and a better contrast.

2. iPhone 5S

-It has the same weight, height, and dimensions as the iPhone 5, the 5S has the exact same sturdy and sophisticated aluminum and glass design. The 5S looks like the most luxurious smartphone out in the market. It weighs just 3.95 ounces, and is very one-hand friendly (easy to use with one hand). It has a 4 inch screen, which is very small compared to the other smartphones around today. It also has a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels, while others have a higher resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It has one of the brightest displays that a smartphone can have, allowing users to view their phones with ease even when in direct sunlight. Both the photos and videos of the 5S look crisp and colorful, with its 8 megapixel camera.

3. Google Nexus 5

-At $349 for the 16gb version, this phone has one of the best values in the market. It is a lot cheaper than other devices without a telecom contract, while packing a Snapdragon 800 Processor and a 4.95 inch HD screen. It has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, which results in crisp and sharp text and images. Its camera features HDR and has better day and night time shots, as well as optical stabilization.
