Google Inc. has purchased Titan Aerospace, a US drone manufacturer, but has not disclosed financial information regarding the deal. Google’s move was to bring the internet closer to even the remotest parts of the globe and allow users to connect with the rest of the world. The project came weeks after social media giant Facebook has made its purchase of Ascenta, said a report from Ventures Africa.

Google saw Titan’s solar powered drones to play a significant part to Project Loon, an Internet delivery system based on balloon remote. Titan’s drones were reported to fly at an altitude of 65,000 for three years, reported Ventures Africa.

The operations were expected to start its “initial commercial operations” next year, said Titan Aerospace.

In a statement, Google said, “It’s still early days, but atmospheric satellites could help bring internet access to millions of people, and help solve other problems, including disaster relief and environmental damage like deforestation,”
