Macquarie hires independent John Malhotra as its new head for Asian oil and gas advisory business

According to an anonymous source with knowledge of the action, John Malhotra has been hired by the Macquarie Group Ltd as its new managing director in its advisory and capital raising unit for its oil and gas team. Malhotra had joined Macquarie Capital last October and because of the appointment would move to the firm's Singapore offices this month.

In his new role, Malhotra is said to be the leader in the company's Asian oil and gas advisory businesses. This was confirmed by the source who sought anonymity as the information is deemed confidential in nature.

Before becoming part of Macquarie, Malhotra plied his trade as an independent energy advisor. He also held positions in HSBC Holdings Plc and Lazard Ltd. Aside from the anonymous source, the Wall Street Journal had confirmed the said apppointment in an earlier report. A second person, who took a call at the London office of Macquarie earlier today, said that Malhotra was not immediately available to provide a comment on the matter.
