Intel Capital commits USD65 million in 16 companies

In an announcement today, private equity firm Intel Capital said it had placed investments totaling USD65 million in 16 companies. Startups who had received investment from Intel Capital were from the cloud services, consumer-related services, datacenter technologies and mobile services sectors.

Among the many startups Intel Capital had backed was Finnish startup SkySQL. SkySQL's product platform MariaDB was the open-source relational database of choice of online reference site Wikipedia. Intel also lend support to DotProduct, of which its software captures and process 3D data in real-time on Android tablets. Intel Capital also invested in cloud services startups CloudFX of Singapore, Cloudian of Japan, and Chinese community website and services platform CSDN.

According to a trend report by venture capital and angel investment database, Intel Capital was the third most active investor who had placed investments in security technology companies. CB Insights also disclosed that Intel was noted to have the highest number of exits since the beginning of 2012. Intel had recently exited from security technology companies Palo Alto Networks and FireEye.
