Some of the major broadcasters in the US had filed a Supreme Court motion in their efforts to stop the services of tv streaming tech startup Aereo. Fox Television Stations, CBS, PBS, Univisions and divisions of Walt Disney Company and Comcast Corp were the companies who had filed on Friday for the court to determine whether the method of Aereo's had violated a copyright law.

The broadcasters had insisted that sending television signals from small antenna farms to Aereo's paying customers violated a copyright law. Lower courts so far had ruled out that Aereo did not do anything illegal.

Fox said, "Today's filing underscores our resolve to see justice done. Make no mistake, Aereo is stealing our broadcast signal."

Aereo refused to comment about the filing. The company however, said, "We will respond, as appropriate, in due course."

Janney Capital Markets had said that Aereo's expansion would threaten the USD2.4 billion in revenues via fees broadcasters charge pay-TV providers and local stations to carry its signals. According to Janney, the fees would expect to jump to USD4.1 billion by 2017.
