Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a statement through a spokeperson's unit saying that it had launched an air strike between the capital of Lebanon and Sidon Thursday evening. The area was in Naameh valley, and was said to be a General Command base of the Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine, as reported by Lebanese news outfit Daily Star. The IDF also blamed the state government of Lebanon for not preventing the rocket fire, who earlier landed in Israel. Syria borders Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea.

In a response, the Palestinian group coursed a statement through their spokesman in Hezbollah's Al-Manar television that no deaths or significant damage was done by the Israeli strike. A retaliation was hinted to be done "at the right time".

Perhaps in an attempt to stabilize the intense exchanges and assert control over the situation, Lebanon President Michel Suleiman had already said that the launching of rockets into Israel violated United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, and had urged agencies to apprehend the perpetrators for a judicial trial.

The Wall Street Journal published a report on August 16 that in a United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) study, a 1% increase in the GDP of Syria is a 0.2% increase in the GDP of Lebanon, and vice versa. Syria borders Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea. The Beirut Traders Association - Fransabank Retail Index show a 11.5% drop in the second quarter due to security incidents
