Nike Inc. is set to address several issues with the new Major League Baseball (MLB) uniforms that were introduced this spring.

The move comes following widespread criticism of the changes, including smaller numbers, thinner fabric, mismatched colors, and pants that appeared see-through.

Nike to Address Uniform Complaints

According to a memo obtained by ESPN from the MLB Players Association, Nike will make modifications to the uniforms by the start of the 2025 season at the latest.

The changes will include returning to larger lettering on the back of jerseys, fixing the mismatched colors on tops and bottoms, and addressing the sweat absorption issues that players experienced.

"This has been entirely a Nike issue. At its core, what has happened here is that Nike was innovating something that didn't need to be innovated," The memo states.

Union's Perspective, Partnership Details

The MLB Players Association absolved Fanatics, the uniform manufacturer, from blame, emphasizing their long-standing partnership and commitment to player feedback.

Fanatics has been making MLB uniforms for eight years without previous issues. The union expressed hope that Nike would adopt a similar approach to soliciting player feedback and making necessary adjustments.

Nike's partnership with MLB began in 2019 under a 10-year, $1 billion contract to supply official MLB uniforms.

The changes are significant for Nike, especially amid its declining stock performance.

Shares of Nike have fallen 13% year-to-date and 26% over the past 12 months, contrasting with the S&P 500's gains.

MLB has not commented on the situation, but the forthcoming adjustments aim to address the dissatisfaction voiced by players and fans regarding the recent uniform changes.
