The Vampire Diaries has been one of the most followed series of the CW. Not only it has one of the most likeable characters on television, it also boasts unique storylines about the Salvatore family. As season seven progresses, it remains to be seen whether the CW will still grant the Julie Plec-produced drama an eight season pickup. Ian Somerhalder, meanwhile, offered his thoughts about Nina Dobrev’s departure from the show.

Two weeks ago, the CW has bumped The Vampire Diaries to a new timeslot. Beginning Jan. 29th, the series will begin airing every Friday nights at 8PM. Its spinoff, The Originals, will proceed at 9PM. Seriable reported the news.

On the heels of this announcement, speculations have spurred that The Vampire Diaries is on its way to the chopping block. After all, it is a common strategy for networks to bump TV series to Fridays before cancelling it.

According to Zap2it, there are other factors to consider apart from the show’s shift in schedule. This includes the departure of Nina Dobrev’s Elena. The publication wrote that due to this setback, many fans have stopped watching. Apparently, they no longer care to see Damon or Stefan with anyone else.

Although Stefan is now paired with Caroline, Stelena shippers are still out there hoping to see their once beloved couple to be together.

Ian Somerhalder, meanwhile, addressed his co-star’s leaving in a recent report. According to the actor, he had some reservations following Dobrev’s exit.

“I personally think everyone thought it was going to be a huge departure after Elena (Dobrev) was gone. And I was one of those people,” Ian commented in a report from Just Jared.

He admitted that Elena’s absence on The Vampire Diaries was something that would shake things up for the “typical formula” of the one hour drama.

“By virtue of the fact that it wasn’t a huge leap for mankind, as far as changing it up, there were some differences that sort of mixed up the formula,” Somerhalder explained.

It’s going to be an interesting couple of months for The Vampire Diaries. Fans who are worried for its possible cancellation should definitely keep wishing that the CW will move it back to Thursday nights.
