Apple fans may be seeing the last of the Macbook Air, as reports have come in that the Cupertino-based device manufacturer will be phasing out the 11-inch Macbook to give favour to the iPad Pro.

The speculations first arose when Jan Dawson, chief analyst at Jackdaw Research, said that it won't be long until Apple will decide to discontinue the line. Dawson goes on to comment that Apple has kept the Macbook in the same position as the newest iPhone, which makes analysts wonder whether users will still be seeing a new Macbook Air in 2016, says Yibada.

Latinos Post goes on to further add fire to the rumour by pounding on the fact that Apple has yet to give an announcement on the launch of the latest model of the Macbook Air. In the last Apple event, it was a little mind-boggling not to find the Macbook Air 2016 version in the mid-september event's line up of devices.

Other reports indicate that Apple could still announce the Macbook Air 2016 edition release in this week's Black Friday weekend. If Apple does announce a Macbook Air for 2016, users could be looking forward to a model finally with Retina display and possibly with 13-inch and 15-inch displays, says Parent Herald.

Other rumoured specs include an Intel Skylake-U chipset to run the OS X El Capitan that the Air will be coming out from the box with, a Type-C USB port, and an improved battery life.

However, if the current ones will be the last line of Macbook Airs that Apple users will be seeing, it will be because of the iPad Pro, which now sports the mobility and performance that the Macbook Air could provide.

Carolina Milanesi of Kantar WorldPanel Comtech comments that all notebooks should be mobile nowadays, and thus something like the Macbook Air does not need to be branched out anymore.

If users will be seeing a new Macbook Air model this 2016, chances are older models will drop in price or be discontinued, just like Apple does with other Macbook versions.
