Developers Firaxis Games and 2K Studios proudly announced the upcoming sequel of XCom, XCom 2. Prior to its release date, the developers teased the fan community with several photographs which was released last November 19 to provide a glimpse of the Wilderness map's environment.

The snapshots have shown some details regarding the gleaming ADVENT cities, wilderness environment which composes of greening woodlands, snowy scrublands, and even areas which seemed to be desert like. PC Gamer reports that the Wilderness maps could easily be recognized by dilapidated buildings and overgrowth. While one may still encounter some ADVENT architecture, the developers says that Wilderness is still tentative at best.

While according to Destructoid, the looks of the environment seems quite pleasant so as one's squad is likely to perish if one would be carried away and not bother to worry on how to survive these environments, "or how your never-big-enough organization will die a slow, painful death because of a few rookie calls you made early on that are now catching up with you."

Furthermore, Twinfinite reacted positively in the addition of a winter season which is interchanging with the usual green surfaces. Waterfalls, sunset sceneries, and the glow of the early morning add life to the almost lifeless environment. Meanwhile, reports have also revealed that Firaxis Games confirmed that the Wilderness maps will not be the common battleground for the game. As the developers have stated: "Keep in mind [that] this won't be the case during 'every' Wilderness encounter though, as the forests and rundown buildings are still prime locations for an ambush from a waiting ADVENT patrol."

Firaxis Games and 2K Games' turn-based tactical game, XCom 2 is scheduled for release on February 5, 2016, to be available on PC, Mac and Linux platforms.  XCom 2 is a sequel to the 2012 reboot of XCom:  Enemy Unknown.
