Motorola has finally begun the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to its Moto G (2014) devices through a soak test. Reports on Reddit, however, have confirmed that the official over-the-air release will begin today.

According to the same report, some Moto G (2014) owners are already receiving update notifications which will be carrying a 400MB upgrade from Lollipop to Marshmallow.

The tech site referred to Reddit posts to XDA, a well-known community of Android ROM developers, that soak test has already started and official update will begin as soon as today. Moto G (2014) is currently running on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop version, bringing with it a slew of bug fixes and security updates.

Since the phone has not been updated to Android 5.1, Lollipop's first maintenance release, the device has been bombarded with minor bugs, software problems, battery drain and memory leakage that brought sluggish performance. Other reports told that this has caused involuntary shutdown of the device.

While problems of the device has been well reported, with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, it is said that Google is bringing a one-time solution for these problems.

With regards to the reported final soak test, in this stage happens the last round of testing the compatibility of the software to the device where real owners who are selected members of the Motorola feedback Community will experience first the upgrade.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow will come into Moto G (2014) device with a lot of changes and improvements from Lollipop, including the performance, software, battery life, user interface, mobile payments, and a lot more.

Motorola is also confirmed rolling out the update to a bunch of its other devices under the Moto G, Moto G, Moto E and DROID lineups.
