The film adaptation of Scott Cawthon's point click game, Five Nights at Freddy's, is currently in development with Poltergeist director Gil Kenan on board. While official plot is still unknown, Kenan has been teasing about possible story details on his Twitter account.

The murderous animatronics promise to bring more horror with the project currently underway, but aside from previous confirmation of using practical effects, and Cawthon's inclusion in the development, details have been scarce for the project.

Fortunately, Kenan has been entertaining some of the fans' queries via social media, and has also been generous in giving out hints about the characters. According to a report by Kotaku, Kenan confirmed that the animatronics will be made at the Henson Creature Shop and it will be filmed in "more than one location.."

Moreover, the director also revealed that he wants to shoot the Five Nights at Freddy's film practically due to the unnerving horror it brings. "@TheRealRoscoe I want this to be crazy practical - that's what makes animatronics so unnerving - they're REAL", Kenan stated.

Also, as reported by Design & Trend, Kenan posted photos which could be hints of possible Fredbear and Foxy's inclusion. Earlier in October, he posted a photo of a wrecked car with a teddy bear inside and a caption which read, "only one survived".

In the lore, Fredbear has spearheaded the deadly events in the restaurant with the guards getting killed off along the way, thus, the picture could mean that Fredbear is the only animatronic left who survived. Furthermore, Kenan also posted a photo of an animatronic eye design saying "keep an eye on this one". Although the pun in the caption is noticeable, it could also mean the inclusion of Foxy since it was frequently stated in the game to "keep an eye" on the character.

Meanwhile, as the wait for the film continues, Cawthon recently released a teaser for the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy's World. However as reported by Attack of Fanboy, the teaser did not go to the direction expected by many as it featured "cute" versions of the usually horrifying, murderous animatronics.

The almost one and a half minute teaser shows Fredbear, Foxy, Chica, and Bonnie in their "cuter" version as they fight other animatronics using giant pizzas, stars, and musical notes. While many think it's a wrong direction for the franchise, Cawthon's liking for hidden messages and random surprises could reportedly indicate that the trailer might just be one of the new things he has in store for the fans. These speculations, however, will only be confirmed in the game's release in 2016.

Aside from directing the Five Nights at Freddy's movie, Kenan is also writing the script with Tyler Burton. It is set to be produced by Roy Lee and Seth Gramahe-Smith. No release date has been slated for the project yet.
