After an agonizing month of waiting that called for an online petition by the show's loyal fans, Netflix picked up "Longmire" Season 5 and made it official via the Facebook account of the show.

"We've never been one to back down from a fight. Longmire will return to Netflix for Season 5," the post read. It also came with a photo of Sheriff Walt Longmire. However, there is no news on the new season's release.

Netflix picked up the Western crime drama from A&E last year after it was cancelled after three seasons. A&E at that time said that while the show garnered positive reviews and good ratings, it did not fit its target demographic. Soon, fan petitions and posts on social media convinced Warner Bros. to offer the show to various networks until a fourth season was picked up by Netflix. The decision proved to be a wise one for the streaming giant.

At the Television Critics Association press tour last summer,EP Greer Shephard remarked of their show being with Netflix, "We're mercifully with a wonderful company now that values viewers over demos and we're benefiting from that."

Series creator John Coveny could not contain his excitement being in the show's new home. Speaking in the same forum, he revealed that Netflix bet so much on the show and had great plans to do with the series when they first acquired it reports Variety. He further related, "Netflix said, 'We want human beings to watch this show - if it has heart and soul to it, we need that piece in the Netflix family.'"

"Longmire" Season 5 should provide answers to the previous season's cliffhanger, which saw Henry being taken away by police officer Mathis and many believe things will not end very well for him. Meanwhile, an intruder making an entrance in Walt's home at the wrong time reports Christian Today.

Season 4 of the show was released last September 10 but the lack of renewal news from the streaming giant worried fans of the show's fate once again. There were even rumors that Netflix only rescued the show from A&E in order for the show to tie everything up. Thus, the renewal announcement was met by fans with much relief.
