The UK Investigates OnlyFans

According to TechCrunch's latest report, Ofcom has raised serious concerns, suspecting that Fenix International Limited, the parent company of OnlyFans, may have failed to implement adequate age-verification features, potentially allowing children to access the website.

"We have grounds to suspect the platform did not implement its age-verification measures in such a way as to sufficiently protect under-18s from pornographic material," said the UK regulator.

Aside from this problem, Ofcom also accused the adult content website's parent firm of providing inaccurate or incomplete information as part of two detailed request notices issued in June 2022.

How OnlyFans Verify Users

The Guardian reported that OnlyFans requires subscribers to provide their names and credit card details. They need to disclose these details when signing up.

Aside from this, OnlyFans also checks the age of users using Yoti's age estimation technology, which the British government approves. This means that the verification tool is effective.

However, OnlyFans admitted that a coding error caused the threshold for passing the age estimation process to be set to 20 instead of 20.
