Russian business tycoon and politician Mikhail Prokhorov set to buy a 21.75% stake in the world's top potash producer, Uralkali, from the company's main owner Suleiman Kerimov.

After the collapse of the Belarussian venture, Kerimov is considering offers from other parties as to his stake in potash producer Uralkali.

Sources told Bloomberg that billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov's Onexim Group was thinking of bidding for a stake in Uralkali.

A unit of China Investment Co, Chengdong Investment Corp, converted its Uralkali bond purchase to stock.

Nickel producer Norilsk denied reports that it would be acquiring a stake in potash firm Uralkali.

According to reports by the Wall Street Journal and Reuters, Norilsk Nickel could place a bid to acquire a 21.75% in billionaire Suleiman Kerimov- helmed potash company Uralkali.

Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner was held in custody after holding potash discussions in Belarus.

Russian tycoon Alexander Nesis has sold around US$1 billion worth of shares in Uralkali to fund new projects.
