Boeing Co (BA.N) on Wednesday said it was disappointed by the U.S. Air Force's decision to award Northrop Grumman Corp (NOC.N) a contract worth up to $963.5 million to maintain the nation's stockpile of nuclear missiles, and had asked for a briefing about the decision.

Raytheon Co (RTN.N) beat out Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N) and Northrop Grumman Corp (NOC.N) for a contract to build a next-generation long-range radar system for the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Defense Department said on Monday.

Industry executives and academics said mandatory budget cuts or sequestration have led to job losses and could eventually undermine the competitiveness of the US in the global economy, a Reuters report said.
