Hyperloop, a high-tech futuristic transportation system initiated by Elon Musk, is now in progress with the help of crowdsourced teams formed after Musk open-sourced its blueprint. The technology will be tested this summer at SpaceX headquarters and is expected to be operating by 2020.
Hyperloop Technologies said it is one of the promoters of the Elon Musk's SpaceX Hyperloop design competition and will be offering $150,000 in winning prizes for engineering students. The contest consists of two parts in which the students design and construct a pod prototype for Hyperloop system.
Elon Musk, the brain behind Tesla, SolarCity, and SpaceX, has previously presented what he calls the fifth mode of transport - the Hyperloop.
Elon Musk recently announced a radical transport system on solar energy that will reduce travel time from San Francisco to Los Angeles to 30 minutes.
