Italian industrial conglomerate Finmeccanica (SIFI.MI) is set to announce the sale of its shares in rail and signaling units AnsaldoBreda and Ansaldo STS (STS.MI) to Japan's Hitachi (6501.T) as soon as Tuesday, a source close to the matter said on Monday.
Italy's Finmeccanica may decide to sell DRS Technologies once it has found a partner for the struggling U.S. unit, the chief executive of the aerospace and defense group told an Italian newspaper on Monday.
A senior Hitachi Ltd (6501.T) executive confirmed the company has bid for Italian conglomerate Finmeccanica's (SIFI.MI) train-making and rail signal assets.
An Italian government official said on Italian radio that Finmeccanica had agreed to exit from its controlling stake in Ansaldo Energia.
According to a report from Il Secolo XIX newspaper on Saturday while citing sources, Italy's Finmeccanica asked state owned Cassa Depositi e Prestiti to make an acquisition offer to buy the defense group's energy company.
Bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals involving European, U.S. and Asian companies were reported by 1030 GMT on Thursday.
