For the entrepreneur, investor, and motivational speaker Didi Wong, integrity is at the heart of everything she does. "Integrity is the biggest word for me. I love this word, and I love teaching about it!" says Didi.

Didi attributes integrity to all of her success, including receiving one of the highest levels of achievement, called the "Women of the Decade for Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital," from the Women Economic Forum. The organization has over 800 chapters across the globe.

Why do we need to live with integrity?

Didi Wong: What I've found so far in the world, there are so many people I come across who don't stick to their word. You know who the successful ones are because somehow they always stick to their word, and that's the reason why they're so successful.

If you find yourself constantly missing or rescheduling meetings, it makes you a scatter-brain and makes people think you don't have your stuff together. People like this don't have integrity.

Why is integrity so important to you?

Didi Wong: Integrity is so important for success. In business, you must make other people feel important. If you're giving someone your time or saying you will do something, you must do it! That's what integrity is.

It's okay if you need to reschedule or shift things around. Life happens. But it would be best if you communicated with the right intentions, so your integrity is still strong. Tell the person in advance. If you work with people who are vibrating at the same frequency as you, it's easier to vibe, there's a mutual understanding, and working together is easier because the intentions are clear and set.

The unfortunate thing is there are a lot of people who don't show up. I'm not going to spend my energy on these people. You can see the real players in the world quickly.

Can you share an example of how you show up with integrity?

You should still follow up, even if you don't intend to do something. For instance, I'm asked to be an investor all the time, but sometimes things don't work out, or I have too many projects going on at the moment to dedicate my time and attention to something else.

I still reach out and say thanks for contacting me, but I'm going to pass this time. Instead of ghosting someone, take the time to write a quick email, and people will respect you more for it. This is a relationship thing and a human being thing. We're not supposed to be best friends with everyone, and not everything is going to work out, but we still need to have integrity at our core.
