4 ways to make your business look more professional

When a customer decides who will get their business, one of the factors that will play a big part in their decision is professionalism. You may have the best products and offer competitive prices, but if your company doesn't act professionally, the decision may not play in your favor. Here are 4 ways to make your business look more professional.

Make sure your staff know what is expected

You probably appointed your staff based on their ability, experience, and personality, but if they don't come across as professional, it could impact your business. Employees should be polite, well-spoken, and be trained to know how to act in different situations.

If a customer query is responded to in a manner that could be deemed unhelpful or disinterested, it's unlikely that the customer will be very impressed. Similarly, if you run an office and your receptionist spends the day chatting to friends or greeting clients while chewing gum, it's hardly going to represent professionalism. Make sure staff are well versed in manners and etiquette, and they understand they are representing your brand

Secure an efficient network of suppliers

Efficient suppliers will make it easier for you to achieve expected deadlines and provide a top-notch service to your clients. Using the cheapest suppliers won't necessarily save you money in the long run, so don't let price be the sole factor in your decision when making an appointment.

The ideal scenario is to create long-standing relationships with suppliers that will go above and beyond when you need them to. When suppliers let you down, it can impact on production targets and could have a detrimental effect on your ability to provide goods and services to clients. This doesn't look at all professional, so it's something to be mindful of.

Deliver on time

If you tell a client that a project will be completed by a certain date, you must do everything you can to ensure you deliver on time. If you are running behind, let them know as far in advance as possible. Good communication can often soften the blow, so be honest and keep them informed.

If you rely on other companies such as a courier service to deliver products or supplies to customers, be sure to appoint one that has a proven track record. If, for example, they offer same day delivery or delivery within tight timescales but are consistently late, it isn't going to look good on you. You are paying them to fulfill your delivery expectations, so make sure they do, or customers may doubt your abilities.

Branding and marketing

A solid brand and good marketing strategy can help to create a strong and professional image for your company. Make sure your brand is consistent across the board, including any literature, photography, and marketing you produce. A professional looking logo coupled with good quality imagery can do wonders.

Your marketing content should be timetabled in advance and will help deliver a clear message. Brand awareness and customer loyalty will also help you to build your business and portray a professional and trustworthy company.
