Google has unveiled its plan for a $2 billion investment in Malaysia, signaling its intent to bolster its presence in the country's burgeoning tech landscape.
According to Bloomberg, Google's latest commitment encompasses establishing its first data center and expanding its Google Cloud services within the region.
Ruth Porat, Chief Financial Officer of Alphabet Inc., said this investment represents Google's most substantial financial commitment to Malaysia to date.
This move aligns with the broader trend of major US tech firms intensifying their focus on Southeast Asia, viewing it as a pivotal arena for future growth opportunities.

Other tech giants like Microsoft, Apple, and Nvidia are also investing heavily in Southeast Asia. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently announced a $2.2 billion investment in Malaysia, besides similar initiatives in Indonesia and Thailand.
Google's investment in Malaysia extends beyond infrastructure development as it also plans to foster AI literacy programs for students and educators.
