Verizon Wireless has just started to roll out an Android Lollipop to units of Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Tab S & G Pad 7.0 beginning today. The update primarily brings Android security patches.
On its support page, Verizon has announced earlier today that the carrier is releasing a Lollipop update. Although it was not made clear if it was the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, Verizon noted that it will be an update that will help phones have better performance through security patches.
August and September has been a busy month not only for Verizon but for the whole Android community because of the series of software updates. Google has been on the verge of preparing the upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow's release later this month.
The new Android Lollipop update will come through over-the-air download using a Wi-Fi connection. If prompted for the download, make sure the battery is charged up to at least 50 percent before heading to the installation proper. Storage should have an extra memory space depending on the download's file size. The update will come in stages.
Current software version status of Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Tab S and LG G Pad 7.0 are as follows:
Phone |
Current Software Version |
Android 4.4.2 KitKat |
|
Android 5.0 Lollipop |
|
Android 4.4 KitKat |
To check the software version of the phone, just go to Home > Settings > About device. Read the software version.
Here's a quick rundown to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop features and improvements in Material Design, notification controls, device sharing, and device syncing.
