Giant Swedish game publisher Starbreeze invested $1.4 million in Cmune, a shooter game specialist company.

VentureBeat reports that Cmune will bring Starbreeze's popular PAYDAY franchise into the mobile device platform. Starbreeze will still own the PAYDAY intellectual property rights. It will also hold 6.3 percent shares from Cmune. That puts Cmune to a whopping $22.2 million in value. PAYDAY is a multiplayer first person shooter with 9 million players at present. The PAYDAY franchise is co-published by 505 Games, which will also co-publish its entry to the mobile device platform with Cmune.

Starbreeze AB is an independent creator and publisher of high quality entertainment products and is now bringing its hit PAYDAY franchise to the mobile device platform. According to Starbreeze AB CEO Bo Andersson Klint, they see Cmune as a long-term partner. He said that they have always seen PAYDAY in a cooperative setting and they are now very excited for the countless possibilities that partnering up with Cmune will bring.

Starbreeze will also unveil its latest StarVR technology, OVERKILL's The Walking Dead, and Payday 2 to the West Hall Lobby of the Electronic Entertainment Expo from June 16 to 18 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Cmune has developed internationally successful games such as UberStrike, which is the top First Person Shooter on browser with 25 million players. Cmune has recently developed other hit FPS games for touch screen devices such as Bullet Rush and Deadheads. Cmune has companies in Hong Kong, Beijing and San Francisco. Some of its investors are DCM Ventures and Atomico, as well as countless other gaming industry big shots.

Cmune CEO Ludovic Bodin in a statement said, "We see a huge opportunity in marriage of first class IP like Payday and mobile. There's a market hungry for a fresh take on FPS in both the east and west, which we plan to capture."
