"Modern Family" has just concluded its sixth season late May with the finale titled, "American Skyper." Reports have surfaced about the continuous drop of the show's ratings throughout season 6, which spark the question whether it will end anytime soon. Will the show's seventh season be its last?

Stars of the ABC hit sitcom Julie Bowen and Ed O'Neill admit that the show's end is inevitable. In an interview with E! News during the screening of "Modern Family" season 6 finale, O'Neill hinted the show's end when asked about its possibility.

"It will, you know," O'Neill said. "I saw Mad Men went off the other day, and that's just how it works. That's all."

Even Bowen, who plays Claire Dunphy in the series, agreed with his TV dad's opinion about the show's fate. The actress simply said, "Oh, it's coming," perhaps breaking the hearts of every fan of the show.

The idea of "Modern Family" ending however, is not as farfetched as opposed to what its diehards think since Deadline reports that the show's sixth season finale has hit the series's all-time low.

"American Skyper" is 38% down from season 5's ender that aired in May 2014 and 14% down from season 6's penultimate episode. With this drop on ratings, will "Modern Family" bow after season 7?

Co-creator Steven Levitan of the ABC series said that the ending is on his mind for sure but also thinks that the show could still run for a few more years.

"[W]e will keep going, but if we have the gut feeling that it's time to stop, we will shut it down," he said, predicting that could come at about "3-4 years from now."

Actress Sofia Vergara has already aired her sadness once the show ends. The Colombian-American actress said that every time the idea crosses her mind, she can't help but feel down as working with her co-stars is her favorite thing to do.

"Modern Family" season 7 will again follow the lives of the Dunphys, Pritchetts, and the Tuckers. ABC renewed the show for another season that will most likely highlight Alex (Ariel Winter)'s college life and the cat-and-mouse relationship of Andy (Adam DeVine) and Haley (Sarah Hyland).

The ABC hit sitcom will not end yet but its stars Julie Bowen and Ed O'Neill understand that it will eventually happen. Sofia Vergara is not particularly happy about it but "Modern Family" showrunners are confident that the series will still run for a few more years.
