The third installment of the Thor series, titled 'Thor 3: Ragnarok' will be released in 2017. This time, the character will be played by a woman. Writer Jason Aaron and artist Russell Dauterman already revealed her identity, as seen on Thor's eight issue - it's going to be Jane Foster.

The upcoming film will focus on the Infinity Stone, and how its power can end the world. According to reports, Thor, who is currently played by Chris Hemsworth, might take his last breath or give up his powers. The hammer Mjolnir will then be taken up by Jane.

Based on the 'Original Sin: Thor and Loki' series, Nick Fury whispered something in Thor's ear that caused the latter to feel 'unworthy' of the hammer's power. He drops the name Thor and will go by a new identity, Odinson, carrying a god-killing Jarnborn axe. Meanwhile, the hammer chooses a mysterious woman to be the new Thor.

It was only revealed now that the woman behind the mask was Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman in the previous Thor franchise. Another revelation was that Jane battled breast cancer, and was bed-stricken for a long time - her transformation is actually killing her.

In 'Avengers: Age of Ultron', it was divulged that people other than Thor can pick up the hammer, as long as that person is 'worthy'. We saw Captain America lifted it a little, and Vision picked it up easily. That scene, along with Thor's visions of Asgardia, may have hinted what's about to happen.

Part of Jane's struggle is maintaining her secret identity as the story progresses - Odin announced that the new Thor would be arrested if she steps foot in the city. It's yet to be determined if this plot twist makes  its way to the movies. Will the new female Thor join the Avengers too? More details about 'Thor 3: Ragnarok' will be unveiled at this year's Comic-Con held in California.
