"NCIS" will possibly enter its 13th season without its prime character, Gibbs, who've been shot in Iraq during the season 12 finale. Show's executive producer Gary Glasberg hinted that there's an "impending danger" waiting for the team while Mark Harmon's return next season remains uncertain.

"NCIS" season 12 ended with a heartbreaking cliffhanger, where Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) took two shots from a boy he befriended with. Gary Glasberg said in an interview that the final scene's intention was to leave the audience "unsure" of where "NCIS" season 13 is headed.

Glasberg is aware that their audience is baffled as to how the team will move towards another season with Gibbs' condition.

"We've got a lot of questions that need to be answered and then some impending danger that we need to deal with when we get back," says Glasberg.

However, fans were worried that Gibbs will soon bid his goodbye to the show following the season 12 finale's events. It turns out that their speculations may actually be true since Mark Harmon himself is unsure whether his character will survive.

During his interview in "The Late Late Show with James Corden," the actor may have teased about not coming back to the show. When asked about who will be killed off in the finale, Harmon did not reveal the fate of Gibbs but left the "NCIS" fans something to think (cry) about.

"I really believe this. I think anybody on this show is replaceable," said the actor.

It was previously reported that Mark Harmon signed a 2-year contract in 2013 that would probably expire this year. There's still no news about him signing another deal with CBS, which makes his return in "NCIS" season 13 still uncertain.

"NCIS" season 13 will drop on CBS this fall with an "impending danger" awaiting the fractured team following Gibbs' fatal injury during the season 12 finale.
