After releasing Watch Dogs, fans quickly looked towards Ubisoft if Watch Dogs 2 is in the making. At first no official statement was released confirming or denying of a planned sequel, however an employee accidentally spilled the beans on the project by placing it on his LinkedIn page. The original profile where Watch Dog 2 was placed under projects was long been edited, but it was enough to fuel the beliefs of anxious fans that there is indeed a sequel in the works.

Though there is still no confirmation from Ubisoft that Watch Dogs 2 is under development, Gamespot posted ideas coming from Ubisoft's Cretive Executive, Jonathan Morin, on what needs to be changed from Watch Dog.

"When you start a new project [and new IP], it's a blank page and everything you do is what you want to do," he said. "With a sequel, there is more pressure to push a brand forward and we now have to appeal to fans in a new way."

Morin said on Gamespot that the Watch Dogs sequel must allow players more freedom to create their own stories. Morin's statement reflects the gaming trend today of open-world genres of allowing player freedom to do practically whatever they want in the game.

On the other hand, Ubisoft's vice-president, Lionel Raynaud said pertaining to the development of a Watch Dogs sequel, as covered by Polygon,

"This is quite a high ambition and will require us to develop technologies that we didn't have for Watch Dogs, but this combined with fixing and refining what worked well is probably the way to go for Watch Dogs 2."

Ubisoft's Watch Dog was firest released on May 27, 2014 for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC. The game was rated favorably by game critics namely IGN and Metacritic and fans seconded the praise. However, it is also what makes the sequel much more difficult as gamers would expect new things without ditching its unique gameplay formula.

Raynaud continued,

"...when you cool down after five and a half years [of development] and take your vacations and people play the game, certain elements become clear. They let you continue to bring what you envision to the next level with the fans included this time, which is where I think it really gets interesting."

Although Ubisoft is silent over the issue, the game developer will have its day on E3 2015 this coming June. Many are hoping that on that event, Ubisoft will finally draw its curtains and finally unveil, Watch Dogs 2.
