It has already been several months since tech giant Microsoft bought Minecraft proprietorship from its creator Markus Persson (AKA Notch) for a whooping sum of 2.5 billion dollars. While it was a very surprising news to all of its fans and players, only a handful know the real story behind the acquisition of one of the most beloved sandbox game ever made.

Numerous reports indicate various reasons on how Persson came to a decision of selling the game ownership to Microsoft. However, it seems that the creator was the only one to give the people the peace of mind of how Microsoft bought Minecraft.

Three months before the deal, Persson posted a tweet saying,”Anyone want to buy my share of Mojang so I can move on with my life? Getting hate for trying to do the right thing is not my gig.”

His tweet had spawned humorous comments instead of having serious takers at first. Unfortunately, Notch wasn’t kidding, or even drunk from partying for that matter.

According to Mojang CEO Carl Manneh, he received a call from Microsoft moments after Persson’s tweet went live. However, the said software giant wasn’t the only company who have taken the bait. Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts were also racing for Minecraft’s controls. Persson would have to pass on EA’s proposition though since he doesn’t approve much with the company’s policies.

Minecraft is undoubtedly considered one of the biggest block-buster games in the indie game development history. With more than 54 million copies sold across different gaming platforms, Notch, including the Mojang team already earned more than $ 700 million since the game was first released in 2009.

With 2.5 Billion US$ on his disposal, Markus was rumored to have been partying all the time. Apparently, the Minecraft creator doesn’t seem to care much about of what he posts on twitter. In fact, he tweeted, “Also, and this sounds like bragging, but I'd have to party REALLY DUCKING HARD to keep up with the interest, so it's not a viable option.”

As Microsoft bought Minecraft, many gamers are expecting the new edition of the game to come out any time soon. However, Microsoft would still have to give its official statement on the game’s redevelopment process as well as on its release date.
