It's been decades since Maverick and Goose flew the skies and charmed cinemas across the globe. But just because the actors playing the "Top Gun" pilots seemed to have moved on in the last few decades doesn't mean we won't be able to see them in a new adventure.

"Top Gun 2" reportedly has been in the works. But now, the sequel might actually have a little bit of solid ground underneath it. KPopstarz cited rumors that claimed that the sequel to the iconic film that catapulted Tom Cruise into fame is "in top priority." This news is purportedly backed with a statement by Adam Goodwin, head of production for Paramount Pictures, the Hollywood Reporter said.

"We'll likely make a 'Top Gun' sequel with Tom Cruise first. Jerry Bruckheimer would produce, with Tony Scott returning to direct. All parties are moving ahead. We've hired Peter Craig to write the script," he said.

Sounds promising, although without official confirmation from the studio, it's not as though "Top Gun 2" has been officially confirmed.

At least everyone who had been named to work on the proposed sequel is excited. Legendary "Top Gun" producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently spoke to The Huffington Post about what "Top Gun 2" might contain. Surprisingly, it sounds like a fairly futuristic action film.

"The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones. Cruise is going to show them that they're not obsolete. They're here to stay. It's just getting to the starting place. Fortunately for Tom, he's very busy, so you have to find a slot he can fit into and get a budget that Paramount feels they can make the picture," Bruckheimer teased/

Bruckheimer also added his support to the upcoming film.

"We've been trying to get that movie made for 30 years, and I think we're getting closer and closer. Don [Simpson] and I tried to develop something, we didn't succeed. [Tom] Cruise took over, and he tried to develop something, and he didn't succeed. Now we're back at it."
