The iPhone 5s may not have lived up to analyst forecasts but it still delivered a significant number of sales for Apple. Likewise, it set the stage for the upcoming iPhone 6. The following sections provide some tips and tricks on how to maximize the iPhone 5s device.

Set up Touch ID

The 5S was the first smartphone ever to have a fingerprint scanner, and it is currently still the best. This is much safer than the 4 digit pin code lock because the pin code can be guessed, or someone can look over your shoulder and see you inputting your passcode. But no one can unlock your phone with anyone else's fingerprint except yours.

 Get Flashing Alerts

Phones like the Blackberry carry an LED indicator that flashed whenever you have a notification like a text message or an email. iPhones have sound and vibration notifications, but there is no flashing light. Fortunately, there is an option for the camera flash to flicker whenever you have a notification. To do this, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Turn on LED flash for Alerts

View Message Timestamps

iOS doesn't display timestamps, but they can be accessed easily. Go to a particular conversation, and simply drag the screen from right to left to reveal the timestamp for each message in the conversation.

 Make Siri more intelligent

Siri can be even more effective if you teach her new things and give her information about yourself. For example, saying that "Robyn is my sister" will enable Siri to understand your command if you say "call up my sister." If you tell her where you live and where you work, she can also provide in-context reminders. You can also fix Siri's pronunciation by saying "That's not how you pronounce that." She can then have you repeat the pronunciation thrice and then let you pick.

 Timer for Music

Have you ever played music while getting into bed at night, but fall asleep without turning the music off? You can use a timer to stop the music for you automatically after a certain period of time. Tap on Clock>Timer>When Timer Ends then press Stop Playing. Set the amount of time you want (let's say 15 minutes), then tap start. Your music will automatically stop playing after 15 minutes.
