Today, Elance-oDesk was launch in Australia along with appointing 3 new officials. A country manager was appointed into office as well as two city managers in Sydney and Melbourne. The company has also expressed its interest into hiring more people to oversee its Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide operations.

Elance-oDesk has announced their merger plans about four months ago. The two firms said that there are 161,000 Australian companies registered on the platform and 8 percent of these are operating in the country.

Elance-oDesk would be competing against platform rival Freelancer.com in Australia. Other rivals include Ozlance.com and Global Virtual Support which operates in Southeast Asia with workers handling customer service support for small to mid-sized enterprises.

The company said that when based per adjusted capital, Australia is on top of all hiring countries. This made Elance-oDesk optimistic as there would be a lot of growth for the firm in the land down under. In the past three years, the company has seen 235 percent increased in the online hiring in Australia.
