Amazon.com has launched a Pay to Quit initiative for its fulfillment center workers. The retail giant offers unhappy employees at quit-incentive of $2,000 which increases by $1,000 each year until it reaches $5,000, according to VentureBeat.

Founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Jeff Bezos said the program was launched to encourage his employees to recognize what they want. He also explained that he does not want workers to stay in an environment that they don't like or is not healthy. However, he added that the company wants them to stay, thus the offer's headline is 'Please Don't Take This Offer,' the report detailed.

Bezos explained that some workers work at the fulfillment center to build their career, while some use it as a stepping stone. Amazon.com pays for up to 95% of a worker's tuition even if the training is not related to the job at the company. The exact number of workers who have taken up the Pay to Quit deal is not yet confirmed, but spokesman Kelly Cheeseman said it is just a "small percentage," the report stated.

The Pay to Quit initiative was first implemented by show and apparel seller Zappos.com. Amazon had acquired the latter in 2009, VentureBeat reported.
