Brendan Eich, Mozilla’s CEO, has resigned from office. This was announced by the company on Thursday. ET reported that the resignation was after an online dating site asked users to boycott Mozilla following Eich’s donation to those who were against gay marriage.

Last month, Eich was appointed into office by the software firm. ET said that in 2008, Eich gave monetary donation to those who have been against the legalization of gay marriage in California.
Gay marriage has been a hot issue confronting the software company especially that Mozilla boasts about its diversity and inclusiveness policy. In 2008, Eich donated USD1000 supporting California’s Proposition 8.

Mitchell Baker, Mozilla’s Executive Chairwoman said, "We didn't act like you'd expect Mozilla to act. We didn't move fast enough to engage with people once the controversy started. We're sorry."

Baker said that the next step for Mozilla is “still being discussed.” She also said that details would be announced by next week.
